A high surf advisory has been posted for west-facing shores of the Kona Coast through Thursday afternoon.
Honolulu-based National Weather Service forecasters said a large northwest swell will result in wave heights over 8 feet for west-facing shores until 6 p.m. Thursday.
The forecasters also cautioned that the surf will coincide with Wednesday morning’s high tide bringing an increased risk of wave run-up and overwash along low-lying coastlines exposed to the swell.
Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution, the service said.
